A Home for Street Children

In 2009 Streetwise completed the rebuilding and renovation of a home for street children in Pinetown, Durban, using Irish volunteers and members of the local community. The work was done over three phases in 2005, 2007 and 2009.

The home was little more than a disused mill, but we rebuilt the unsafe parts of the structure, built a new roof, rewired and replumbed the building, installed showers and toilets, replaced windows and renovated the interior. The building now provides a safe shelter for up to 40 children aged between 5 and 15 years. Without the shelter these children would be living on the street.
